It’s our 25th Anniversary, so we’re celebrating in style! Join Amy for a live demonstration on partying the “Amy Way.” Ask her your most intimate hospitality questions. Buy her book–she’ll sign it! Drinking, dining and glorious silent auction are, of course, included. Make sure your pantyhose are on straight, please.

Amy Sedaris has appeared often on screen, both large and small, and lives in Manhattan. She’s co-creator, with Stephen Colbert and Paul Dinello, of Comedy Central’s hit show Strangers with Candy, and half of the Obie-winning “Talent Family” playwright team (with her brother, David).

Amy’s Lifeline Theatre connections include Second City touring with Lifeline ensemble member John Hildreth. Lifeline artistic director Dorothy Milne owes Amy thanks for inviting her to write and perform a piece for Help, Daddy, directed by Mick Napier at the (old) Annoyance Theatre in 1992, which was Dorothy’s initiation into the solo performance arena, and resulted in her creation of the writing/performing collective, Sweat Girls.

The evening also includes a sword fight from The Mark of Zorro, cocktail piano by George Howe, food and drink by Conn’s Catering and a silent auction. Confirmed auction items include airline tickets, plus a Frank Gehry 3-Fish drop pendant, exclusively from Tiffany & Co.

Amy at BUST Craftacular; in new movie; DC appearance

-I’ve had some people ask what exactly Amy will be doing at the BUST magazine Holiday Craftacular next weekend (Saturday, December 8th, 10am – 8 pm, Metropolitan Pavilion, 125 W. 18th St., NYC). In addition to signing copies of I Like You, Amy says that she’ll be selling her homemade fake cakes, calendars, jars of jimmies, lighters, matches and “some stuff from other people” (presumably the craft team she put together for this called the Frayed Knots).

-From the Hollywood Reporter today:

“Tanner Hall,” a never-made UPN pilot, is finding new life as an indie feature.

Chris Kattan, Amy Sedaris and Tom Everett Scott have been cast in the feature, being directed by Tatiana von Furstenberg and Francesca Gregorini.

The script, written by von Furstenberg and Gregorini, is a coming-of-age story set in a boarding school. Four teenage girls navigate adolescence while the adults in their world — the parents and teacher — struggle with their own midlife hurdles.”

I haven’t asked about specifics yet, but Amy is filming for 2 weeks, so I think it’s safe to assume that this is more than just a cameo. (UPDATE: She has a supporting role and plays a teacher.)

-And to everyone I talked to at Amy’s interview/book signing at the Sixth & I Synagogue in Washington DC last Thursday, I just wanted to say it was nice to meet you! I took a lot of photos, which I’ve uploaded to Flickr.

More on Amy in the new Dolly Parton video

Yesterday I posted Dolly Parton’s new video for Better Get to Livin’, in which Amy plays three different roles. Amy Sedaris and Dolly Parton seem like such an unlikely pair, yet Amy was perfect for the part. So, when the video’s director, Steve Lipmann, aka Flip, contacted me last night, I just had ask… How in the world did Amy come to be cast in a Dolly Parton video?! Steve explains:

The thought of casting Amy came from myself and my creative team — we’re all longtime fans. I can remember seeing her shows at La Mama years ago, and immediately succumbed to the insanity. As for the video, the roles were already sketched out, but then I had the idea of getting Amy to do all 3 of them, like Peter Sellers used to do in his movies. I suggested this to Dolly and her team, and they thought it was a great idea. Next thing you know, we approached Amy and she said “yes”. It was the promise that Amy would share a scene with a monkey, and of course, Dolly, that sealed the deal. Wow. Imagine 2 days of filming with Dolly and Amy. This is when show biz has its perks. Amy improvised a lot, and the costume designer Adam Selman and make-up artist Chris Colbeck helped her bring the characters to life, beyond anything I imagined. We all had a blast making the video, and it doesn’t surprise me that there is so much overlap in the fan base with Dolly and Amy. They are both generous and genius one-of-a-kind talents.

Also – Just a reminder that if you want to see the video on the big screen, it premieres on CMT tomorrow (Thursday, November 29th) during the Top 20 Countdown (and if you really like the video, you can go to CMT.com afterwards and vote for it to actually get into the Top 20 Countdown).
